Five Tips For Setting An Achievable New Year’s Resolution

The new year is a great time to start afresh if the year hasn’t been great to you, or to push your goals further if you’ve achieved what you’d hoped.

Here are our tips on setting an achievable new year’s resolution that will help you to take your goals beyond January!

1. Be Realistic

Setting a goal that will take extremes to achieve may end up having the opposite effect; rather than encouraging you, you could lose motivation and decide to stop. Be fair to yourself and set a goal that you believe you can reach.

2. Work out how you’ll get there

You don’t need a day by day plan but work out what you need to do to get to your goal. If your plan is weightloss, break it down into diet and exercise you’ll need to do to get there, or if it’s to reach a new PB, what training will you need to do to help you achieve this?

3. Have small, measurable goals along the way

Your new year’s resolution may be a big goal, but to get there, you can create motivating smaller goals along the way. Being specific and starting small can help you adjust your lifestyle to your goal and keep you encouraged to reach the next one.

4. Don’t let a set-back stop you

Just because every day doesn’t go as planned, it doesn’t mean you won’t reach your goal. If you find yourself having an off-day or even an off-week, tell yourself it’s ok. Your goals can still be reachable if you’re willing to carry on.

5. Stay Positive

A positive mindset can help you visualise your goals. Try to see the positives where you may normally see the negatives. For example, if you feel really tired after the gym, try congratulating yourself for going and think of the benefits it brings.
